Cotton is the soft, hairy fibre that
surrounds the seeds of the semi tropical
shrub, Gossypium (cotton). The fibres,
made up mostly of cellulose, are arranged in
a way that makes it conducive for yarn
spinning. Cotton is strong and has a high
level of absorbency. The word cotton is
derived from the word “qúţun” in
Arabic and the oldest known cotton yarn was
produced in Mohenjo-Daro (Pakistan) around
3000 years ago. |
